Eli whitey was a very influential man all around but I think having a town named after him is one of the most important. At the end of Whitney’s life he had many accomplishments to look back on but one of the greatest was having a town named after him. The reason I think this is important is because what Whitney did to accomplish this great feat. The amazing things Whitney did were not few and far between they were the exact opposite. First he made the cotton gin, after watching slaves work and seeing how long it took to clean a single cotton plant. Whitney thought that there had to be a quicker and more efficient way. Another thing Whitney did was revolutionize the way we looked at gun making. After quitting the cotton gin business Whitney started to watch gun makers and noticed there was only one way to fix a broken gun. He did not like this, so Whitney created an assembly line where every gun was made identical. There are many other reasons why Whitney had the town of Whitney Ville named after him but I think those two are the most important.


At a young age is mother died and Whitney had to live with a mean stepmother who was much older then his father and had 10 children.

Whitney’s love of mechanics paid his for his Yale education.

Whitney lived longer then the life expectancy in his time period; he lived to be 60 years old.

Whitney had planned to be a teacher but quit after not being paid enough.
